A suspect in a hat is running, being pursued by police. He runs through a parking lot, chased by several cops on foot. Several cop cars pull up, the officers get out of their vehicles and join in the foot pursuit. The suspect jumps over partial walls and obstacles like he's a gymnast. The detectives wonder what kind of man they are chasing. They think they’ve pinned him down, draw their guns and tell him he has no where to go. The man jumps out a window and takes off. The suspect ends up surrounded in an alley by cops. Rather than being captured, he begins climbing the pipes to the roof. Once he reaches the top, he makes the jump to the roof across the alley. Two detectives chase him and one injures his ankle on his way up the stairs. The second detective, Donny Johnson, follows and decides to follow the suspect to the other roof. He runs across the roof and jumps but doesn’t make it; he falls 30 feet and lands on his back.

At the E.R., Cameron is treating Donny. He wants to be discharged but Cameron tells him he’s lucky to be alive. Donny has two broken bones, a concussion and collapsed lung. The partner tells Cameron that Donny’s father and grandfather died when they turned 40. Donny doesn't allow anyone close and takes risks because he thinks he's next because he turns 40 the following week. Cameron offers to refer him to a cardiologist but Donny says he’s already done that. All the cardiologist’s he saw told him he was fine. She says, “If there is something wrong, I know a doctor who will find it.”

Wilson comes out of his bedroom and sees House on the couch. After seeing some movement under the covers, Wilson says, “Oh my god! I’ll be back in 10.” House tells him he was only picking lint out of his belly button. They talk about their living arrangements. Wilson moved into the den when Amber died and turned their bedroom into the den (or a shrine for Amber as House calls it). House tells Wilson he's avoiding moving on. Finally Wilson says he’ll have a mattress delivered and House can move into the den. As Wilson is walking away, House tells him he wasn't really picking lint out of his belly button.

The team gathers in House's office to discuss their new case. Donny has never gotten married, he has no kids because he didn't want to pass his genes on to anyone else. He is convinced he's going to die when he turns 40 and didn't want to put anyone through losing him like when he lost his father. The team toss around a few theories then head out to run tests on Donny. Chase follows Cameron and Foreman and sees visions of DiBala in the ICU. He takes off his watch, slips it into his pocket, then lies to Cameron and says he forgot it. He heads back to the locker room to see if he can find it.

Cuddy goes into House's office to discuss his employment status. She tells him "pretend time has been going on long enough." She hands him a slip and tells him he needs to complete 100 hours of rounds to re-qualify for his medical license. House feels he doesn't need to do the rounds, Cuddy can just sign off on his hours. Cuddy insists he do the rounds. He has to meet up with Dr. Sing at 7am on Thursday. Dr. Sing will be supervising House on rounds.

Brave HeartAfter running tests on Donny's heart, the team comes up empty handed. Their next step is to exhume the bodies of his father and grandfather. They get Donny's consent and Chase and Foreman are in the morgue examining the remains. Foreman points out that Chase is avoiding the ICU because it's where DiBala died. Chase admits he's crossed some line and is having trouble getting back to the other side. Foreman encourages him to tell Cameron, she's his wife. Cameron comes in and is surprised to discover they have the remains already. Chase tells her with Donny's consent, it was easy.

As House is preparing to leave for the day, a woman named Cheryl comes in asking about Donny. Cheryl is Donny's ex. girlfriend but she doesn't want to see him. She knows of his family history. House begins to blow her off, but Cheryl admits Donny has a son but she never told him. House picks up the phone and tells her to call and give him the news.

House is in his new bed in the study. He looks around and there are photos of Amber or Amber and Wilson all over. He hears whispering and listens. When it doesn't go away, he turns the light on. He gets out of bed and goes to Wilson's room and opens the door. Wilson turns and asks if House is okay. He says he's fine, goes back to bed but the minute he turns the light out, he hears the whispering again.

In the morning, the team reconvenes to go over Donny's case. They wonder where House is when Chase finds a post-it note from House. House writes that the bleeding hearts should continue working on their non-case, he's going back to school. Cameron is assigned to run tests on Michael, Donny's son. She encourages Cheryl to tell Donny about Michael as they both have a right to know. Cheryl is reluctant at first because she knows Donny doesn't want children, but finally agrees. Cheryl goes to Donny's room. She admits she was pregnant when they broke up but kept it form him because she knew he didn't want kids. Donny is not happy and refuses to meet Michael. Cheryl is insistent he meets his son and finally brings the boy into the room. Michael introduces himself then asks Donny about going to the movies when he gets better. Donny tells Michael his father died when Donny was his age and as much as it hurts, he'll feel better.

Brave HeartHouse is doing rounds with Dr. Sing and a group of interns. One of the women, Nona, presents the patients case and says the woman is ready to go home. Suddenly, the woman begins choking and the interns rush to help her. Dr. Sing looks over and tells House to get off the test button. House had been leaning on it and set the woman off into an attack. The interns look at House and don't know what to make of him while Dr. Sing says Cuddy warned him about House. House starts to move away from the bed and intentionally catches the hose for the catheter with his cane. The hose comes off, spraying urine all over the floor. House tells Sing he gets the drill and to make it easy on himself. House hands him the slip to sign off on his hours.

House returns to the office. Cameron asks, "Don't you have school?" "Sorry, recess," House replies. The team bounces off more ideas/theories regarding Donny's condition because all the tests have come out negative so far. House says he'll convince the patient nothing is wrong with him. When Chase offers nothing, House tells Chase to walk with him. In the elevator, House tries to convince Chase he needs to talk to someone. "Glad we had this little moment," House says and walks away. Chase follows and they enter Donny's room. House tells Donny that he has Ortolli Syndrome. House turns to Chase to offer information as to what it is. Chase stumbles over an explanation and tells Donny the treatment is medication. House hands Donny two white pills, a glass of water and says that he has to take the pills twice a day for a week and he'll live a long and healthy life.

It's bedtime again for House. He turns out the lights in the den and hears a noise. He turns to look and hears pounding and thinks something is going on. From the other room, Wilson tells him to answer the door. House asks if Wilson is watching television, which Wilson claims he's not. House opens the door and finds Foreman standing there. House is a bit disoriented as he thinks he's hearing things and losing his mind. Foreman tells House that Donny collapsed 4 hours after they discharged him, he's dead. His apartment manager found him conscious on the floor. By the time the EMT's arrived, it was too late, he was dead.

In their apartment, Chase sits on the bed fully dressed. He wakes Cameron and she is surprised to find him up and fully clothed. He tells her he needs to go and tell Cheryl that Donny is dead. Cameron looks at the clock and realizes it's only 4:00am. She tells Chase it can wait, he should come back to bed. Chase tells her it's a 2 hour drive and if he leaves then, he'll get there about the time Cheryl is getting up. He feels she should hear the news in person. Cameron asks him what is wrong. She gave him space the week before due to the DiBala presentation but he's still acting weird. She wants to know what is wrong. Chase tells her it's nothing. As he's leaving, she tells him she loves him.

Brave HeartIn the morgue, Foreman is prepping to do the autopsy on Donny's body. He turns on the microphone and begins explaining the proceedings. House grabs the bone-saw to cut Donny's chest open. When Foreman puts his hand out to stop House, House says, "I don't think there is anything I can screw up that we haven't already screwed up." Foreman reminds House he can't do an autopsy without a medical license. Foreman grabs the saw from House, begins dictating and cuts into Donny's chest. House gets a puzzled look on his face and Foreman stops and gets the same look. Foreman notices Donny is bleeding, which isn't normal if he's dead. Suddenly, Donny's eyes open up and he screams. House says, "The autopsy is going to have to wait."

The team regroups to discuss the case. The theory they come up with is Genetic Predisposition to Autoimmune disease. Cameron goes in to start Donny on steroids. Donny tells Cameron his jaw hurts. He grips about how everything that has been tried doesn't work.

Brave HeartHouse is undergoing a hearing test. When the test is done, the doctor tells him his ears are fine. House explains how he is hearing things, voices. She tells him his ears are fine, that's all she can treat. It could be psychosis and he'd have to talk to someone else about it.

House walks into Cuddy's office. She holds up his practicum slip and congratulates him on doing all his hours in 1 day. House admits he was bad, says, "allow me" and tears up the slip. Cuddy tells him she'll be supervising his practicum from now on. He tells her not to bother, he's not ready to be a doctor again. He apologizes and walks out of her office.

Wilson comes home and finds House sleeping on the couch. House says he fell asleep watching television. When Wilson points out that House has made up the couch as a bed, House says the heater in the den is all screwed up. Wilson offers to be there if House needs to talk.

A nurse is tending to Donny. He complains to her that his jaw still hurts, a lot. He complains his tooth hurts as well. The nurse informs him he is maxed out in pain medication and leaves. Donny gets out of bed and walks over to the medical stand. He goes through it until he finds a pair of surgical scissors, puts them in his mouth and pulls out his tooth.

The team meets up in the hallway. Cameron asks if they should wait for House, but Foreman explains House told Cuddy he wasn't ready yet. They had a dentist examine the tooth Donny pulled out and found nothing wrong with it. Cameron wonders if it's bone cancer, so they agree to do an MRI to find out.

House is lying on the couch but doesn't hear any noises, except the barking of a dog outside. He gets up and goes into the den. He turns on the lights and looks around. Suddenly, he hears the whispering again and looks around until he hears it louder. He uncovers a vent and leans down to listen. House quietly walks to Wilson's room and opens the door. Wilson, with his back to the door, is in bed talking to his dead girlfriend, Amber. House quietly shuts the door and leaves.

Cameron and Foreman have Donny in MRI to run tests. Cameron tells Foreman she feels Chase is lying to her. Not wanting to get in the middle, Foreman says, "I'll tell you what I told Chase. Talk to him, he's your husband."

In the morning, Wilson comes out and is surprised there is no breakfast. House admits to Wilson he's having hallucinations, he's hearing whispering. He feels he needs treatment and wants to check himself back into Mayfield. Wilson says he'll bring him if it's what he wants, just let him have tea first. House stands up and says he's having hallucinations without being on vicoden. He pushes Wilson's buttons until Wilson calls him an ass. Wilson admits he's talking to Amber because he misses her, it makes him feel better and talking to House doesn't.

Brave HeartHouse joins Dr. Sing, the interns and Cuddy on rounds. Cuddy wants to know what is going on and they exchange words. She finally walks with him into the hallway. One of the interns comments how Cuddy really hates house. The other intern says, "That's not hate, it's foreplay."

The MRI results are back and reveal Donny doesn't have bone cancer. House wants to know where Chase is. Cameron says she doesn't know. House says he's going to go for a lap and when he returns he hopes they have 3 new ideas, which aren't stupid. As he starts to walk out, it occurs to him that where there's pain, there's nerves. He thinks it's Hereditary Sensory Autonomic Neuropathy, Type I. Cameron says she'll get Donny started on the medicine. House says that Chase specifically asked to do it. He shows up in the lounge and wakes Chase up, asking if he's getting help. House tells Chase he doesn't care how much the room scares him, he's going to do his damn job. While Chase is hooking up the IV, he sees visions of DiBala bleeding out in the bed. He's clearly shaken and can't wait to leave. Donny wants to know how long before the team crosses this diagnosis off the list. As Chase is leaving, he turns and asks Donny if he's ever killed anyone. Donny says no but he knows 2 cops who did. One cop likened it to taking out the trash and the other nearly drank himself to death. Chase wants to know if the man got help. Donny replies, "Help didn't help." Suddenly, Donny screams out, "Oh my god," and when Chase asks what's wrong, Donny admits he went to the bathroom.

The team reconvenes again to talk about Donny's latest symptoms. Donny has lost bowel control. House makes a joke, "I wouldn't want to be the duty nurse on his floor. Get it 'Doody' nurse." They wonder if Donny has Wilson's disease but that wouldn't explain the problems with his liver. Foreman thinks the liver could be so far gone that the test results are normal.

Chase goes to confession. Chase blurts out he killed a man. He admits he's a doctor and he feels he did the right thing. "Who lives or dies, it's not your decision to make," the priest replies. Chase asks for forgiveness. The priest tells him 10 Hail Mary's won't get him forgiveness. Chase wants to know what god wants him to do. The priest tells Chase he needs to take responsibility for absolution, he needs to turn himself into the police.

House paces the office, holding his tennis ball. He's sitting on the floor thinking about the case when Cuddy walks in. She hands him his practicum slip, she signed off on his hours. "Going by the book was pointless. You weren't going to learn anything anyway," she tells him. House comments about the sexual tension between them, which Cuddy denies. He tells her it was sexual tension, he felt something funny. Cuddy asks him if he's okay and he says yes. He wants to know if they are okay, which she responds yes. Cuddy says, "You push my buttons, I push yours." Suddenly, House has an "A-ha" moment and realizes what is wrong with Donny. He gets up off the floor and tells Cuddy, you do make me feel funny."

Brave HeartHouse goes into Donny's room and sits down. He tells Donny he's not going to die. Donny thinks House is going to lie to him again but House assures him he knows what's wrong. He tells him he has an inter-cranial aneurysm. It grew as he got older until it finally let go. House asks if he wants to call Michael, visiting hours don't apply to his patients. Donny says he will, just not right then.

Both Donny and Michael have the brain surgery to remove the aneurysm. Donny is wheeled into Michael's room. He asks Michael what kinds of movies he likes, which makes Michael smile.

Cameron is home on the phone. She's pacing telling the police Chase has been missing for 8 hours. Chase walks in, overhears her and calls out. She tells the police Chase is home and hangs up. She wants to know where he's been as it's 2:00am. She realizes he's drunk. Chase tells her he needed to get wasted, he did and now he's better. He walks up to hug Cameron but she steps back and walks away.

It's bedtime for House. He puts earplugs in, puts his head down on the pillow and closes his eyes. After a few seconds, he opens them and talks to his father. On the other side of the wall, Wilson smiles when House yells, "Wilson! This is stupid!" Wilson says to Amber, "You see. He is getting better."
