DR. GREGORY HOUSE, played by Hugh Laurie

House M.D. Character ProfileHouse Character's Backstory: Dr. Gregory House was a 'Marine Brat' as a child and followed his father to a number of different countries whilst growing up, including Thailand and Japan. He learned many different languages and discovered his vocation after a friend was injured while rock climbing and got a serious infection. Greg's friend was only cured after they brought in the janitor who was actually a Buraku, one of Japan's untouchables. He was able to figure out what was wrong where nobody else could. House began his medical education at Johns Hopkins before he was expelled for cheating off of his fellow student, Philip Weber. Gregory House later attended the University of Michigan where he gained his M.D and met Lisa Cuddy.

Dr. Gregory House had a relationship with Stacy Warner, a constitutional lawyer, whom he claims he met when she shot him in a game of Doctors vs. Lawyers paintball. House suffered an infarction in his right leg which led to a number of options. House refused to amputate. He wanted to bypass the clot and hope that that would save his leg. Stacy took it upon herself to go against his wishes by approving a middle ground: a surgery to remove the dead leg muscle while he was put into a chemically-induced coma. They later broke up and House has since been working at the Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital as the head of the Diagnostics Department. Dr. House specializes in Nephrology and Infectious Diseases. He is a talented pianist with a passion for jazz. He is not above sex with prostitutes on occasion. And, on a side note, he hates pickles.
He isn't known for his great social skills or enjoying talking with patients or... anyone for that matter. But he is good friends with Dr. James Wilson, and he resolves cases working with his team.
