DR. JAMES WILSON, played by Robert Sean Leonard

House Character's Backstory:
House M.D. Character ProfileDr. James Wilson is the head of Oncology at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital.
Dr. W
ilson is Jewish and has two brothers, one of whom is missing and presumed to be homeless.

Dr. Wilson has an undergraduate degree at McGill University (Montreal, Canada) and higher degrees from Columbia and the University of Pennsylvania.

Wilson has been married and divorced three times and has no children. He is Dr. House's best friend and has known him for at least seventeen years.

Wilson is a worry wart - carefree is a term that would not be used to describe him. He seems to have come from a family where there was conflict, absence and loss, which made it difficult for him to understand what 'normal' is in human relationships. He seems to be a middle child, the one who always 'negotiated' his way through family issues, which is largely how he approaches his work. He puts others' feelings and needs ahead of his own, which satisfies him on one level, but does not meet his own needs. This inability to express and act on what he wants is likely what has caused the breakup of virtually every serious relationship he's had.
