BAND FROM TV PERFORMS SATURDAY WITH JESSE SPENCER

November 20, 2009

House Blog - House WikiThis Saturday, Jesse Spencer will be taking the stage with the Band From TV to raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation of Southern Wisconsin.

The Band from TV’s musicians rotate in and out, but here is the roster:
• Jesse Spencer, aka Dr. Robert Chase from "House," playing the violin
• James Denton, aka Mike Delfino from "Desperate Housewives," on guitar
• Teri Hatcher, Denton's TV wife, Susan Mayer, singing with the band
• Bob Guiney of "The Bachelor" fame, also singing
• Adrian Pasdar, aka Nathan Petrelli on "Heroes," also on guitar
• Greg Grunberg, aka Matt Parkman on "Heroes," on drums

There’s no word on whether Hugh Laurie will be there, but Greg Grunberg confirmed that he, Adrian Pasadar, James Denton, Bob Guiney, Jesse Spencer and Scott Grimes will be playing. However, he did say that there will be a few “surprise” guests.

"There's such a need to raise money," Grunberg said, adding that the group has upped the number of concerts it performs to help out. "Charities are really hurting right now."

Band From TV released its first album, "Hoggin' All the Covers," in October 2008, available at Amazon.com. The lineup includes the band's take on Janis Joplin, Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen and others.

Considering that House and Heroes air in the same time slot, is there any friendly competition within the band between the representatives from House, Laurie and Spencer; and those from Heroes, Grunberg and Pasdar?

"Oh yeah, for sure," Grunberg said. "You can't compete with House in the ratings; it's a juggernaut. We (Heroes) have our own fans.

"But I like to joke with Hugh, ‘One slip in the ratings and you're out of the band. It's called Band From TV, not Band From Canceled Shows!' "

IF YOU GO
What: Band From TV, presented by the Epilepsy Foundation of Southern Wisconsin
When: Saturday, Nov. 21, 8 p.m.
Where: Dane County Coliseum
Tickets: $35-$75; www.ticketmaster.com

THE BRITISH ARE COMING!

November 19, 2009

Our prime time TV shows have been invaded by visitors, but not the kind that are on V. More and more British actors are taking prime spots in popular TV shows—a trend that has been largely attributed to Hugh Laurie.

It makes sense that Hugh gets the credit. The success of House and Hugh’s award winning performances have paved the way for producers to look into casting fellow Brits in leading actor or actress TV roles. What I wonder is, what took so long? Movies have been casting British actors and actresses as leads for years. Time and time again, the Brits dominate in the acting arena.

New York Entertainment
took the liberty of collecting a number of the British actors that are dominating the airwaves. Some of these were surprising to me because they can fake a good American accent.

ORLANDO JONES TO PLAY FOREMAN'S BROTHER

November 18, 2009

Omar Epps Orlando Jones The EW reports that Orlando Jones will make a guest appearance on House. Jones will play Foreman's estranged brother, Marcus who is in prison. Of course, we know that Foreman wasn't always an angel and had a shady past as a juvenile, and the meeting with his brother will shed more light on Foreman's character.

Jones's credits include Rules of Engagement, Everybody Hates Chris, Ghost Whisperer and Men in Trees, along with several other TV shows and movies.

Now, we've already met Foreman's father
(Charles S. Dutton) and mother (Beverly Todd), but we know little about his brother. All we know is that they both shared a troubled childhood. Obviously, Eric came out of that situation on top, and his brother Marcus remains troubled.

Foreman and his brother will meet up the night before Marcus' parole hearing. And somehow House gives his two cents which makes things worse because that's what House does.

The brothers reunite sometime in February after the holiday hiatus.

CAMERON'S FAREWELL

November 17, 2009
The much anticipated departure of Jennifer Morrison came last night with a sad conversation between Cameron and House. She said that House has done poisoned team, and it's a fair coin toss to decide whether she is right on the money or far off base.

I can't help but wonder, how right is she? And how much is she taking this out on House for the unrequited love she felt for him? Cameron told House that he has warped the minds of his colleagues. Is House really poisoning the team, or is Cameron blowing House's influence out of proportion?

Discuss: Is House poisoning the team?

As for the first real words out of Jennifer Morrison's mouth about how she feels about her departure, she told EW.com that she finds "the entire situation sort of confusing."

Morrison is being paid for the remainder of the season, which is an indication that she might reappear. But she has also been kept in the dark about what's going on.

“I don’t know anything about anything,” she said. “That’s the thing. Everyone expects me to have an answer and there’s no answer to have because there’s… no answer.”

“I love our writers,” she added. “I think David Shore is incredibly talented. All of the characters he’s created I’ve loved. I think he’s very committed to keeping the characters’ stories authentic.”

Morrison definitely took the high road during the interview, as she always does.

“I love the fans,” she enthused. “Honestly, I have to say one of the most amazing things that’s come out of this job is how incredible the fans have been and how supportive they’ve been. I never could have imagined asking for a more amazing group of people and I’m so thankful for their support.”

OLIVIA WILDE COMES BACK TO HOUSE!

November 16, 2009

House Blog - House WikiRecently, TVGuide interviewed Olivia Wilde about her return to House. She talked about the circumstances of her return, as well as the future of Thirteen and Foreman.

TVGuide.com
: What do you think about House's old team getting back together this season?

Olivia Wilde: This season, the writers have been all about taking risks. It's Season 6, which means you really have license to try things. They're doing these unpredictable things, and one was having House bring back the old team. It was a result of House being in a mental institution and coming back, so I think if we went back to business as usual immediately, viewers would get frustrated. So I think it's cool they're shaking things up. And it's great because I got to take a little break!

TVGuide.com: Will we see Thirteen and Taub officially back on the team soon?

Wilde: What you have to remember is House wasn't the one who fired Taub and Thirteen. Taub quit and Thirteen was fired by her own boyfriend. So, it's up to him to find a way to bring them back, but it's not going to be as easy as he thought. And this next episode reveals just what it is for the doctors that is so addictive to being on the team, what it is about working for House that gets them going, and why it's the only option for them.

TVGuide.com: What can we expect with Thirteen and Foreman's relationship?

Wilde: I think it's going to be bumpy for a little while. It would be dishonest for us to come back from breaking up with each other and having a smooth ride. They're both very good at bottling things up, so it's not the most communicative relationship. Things often come out in bursts, and I think we see that because they work in a high stress environment. You learn more about their relationship through their diagnostic process than through their actual straight talk.

TVGuide.com: What did you think when you read that Foreman was going to fire his own girlfriend?

Wilde: We talk about whether our philosophies are different from our characters, and with that was one I was like, "Oh, no. I couldn't go back! I'm too proud." But if you think about it, Foreman was the one who was by her bedside when she woke up from the terrible hostage situation. And he taught her to choose life and be a healthy person. So it's not as easy to drop this relationship and move on.

HUGH LAURIE SHOWS YOU THE WEATHER, BRINGS HOME THE DOUGH

November 12, 2009
House Blog - House WikiHow would you like to get your weather from Dr. House every day? A new site called "Obama Weather" shows Obama and several other famous people dressed appropriately for the weather, along with the week's forecast. You can pick whomever you want to show you the weather in your region from the site's drop-down menu. For example, this is what you should wear for the weather today in Seattle as shown by Dr. House.

Not only does it give you the weather but you can plan what you are wearing by what the models are wearing. It also helps if you are planning a trip and want to know what to pack. Pretty cool, eh?

You can also get your weather from Angelina Jolie or Bruce Lee. The site has kind of a random selection of famous people, but there you have it.

In completely unrelated but interesting news about Hugh Laurie, Forbes recently named the actor in the top ten list of highest paid men on television.

Leading the list is Simon Cowell ($75 Million)
followed by Donald Trump ($50 million) and Ryan Seacrest ($38 million.

The rest of the list is as follows:

4. Charlie Sheen ($21 million)
5. Steve Carell ($20 million).
6. Howie Mandel ($15 million)
7. Kiefer Sutherland ($13 million)
8. Jeff Foxworthy ($11 million)
9. Hugh Laurie ($10 million)
10. David Caruso ($9 million)

Hugh beat David Caruso! I guess people would rather see the cantankerous stethoscope than the sunglasses of justice. Have a good weekend, everyone.

JENNIFER TALKS ABOUT LEAVING THE SHOW

November 12, 2009
Yesterday Jennifer Morrison was a guest yesterday on the Bonnie Hunt Show, and she covered topics we've all been curious about. One of the things they talked about is why House is such a popular show, to which Jennifer Morrison said "I guess people really want to have a crabby doctor." Jennifer also talked about her early start as an actress and crashing a second-grade school play audition when she was a kindergartner.

However, the most important thing she talked about is her future on House. Bonnie asked Jennifer if she is done with House and she said "I am as far as I know, yes." This is strange because other actors have been alluding to her hiatus on House as temporary. Watch and see what you think.

JESSE SPENCER INTERVIEW PART 2

November 10, 2009
Jesse SpencerWow! After last night's bombshell, it's only inevitable that things are about to get heavy for Chase and Cameron. But how, exactly, will that happen? In an extended interview with TV Guide, we find out more from Jesse Spencer.

TVGuide.com: Why do you think Chase has been so consumed with guilt even though he knows his decision saved so many lives?

Jesse Spencer: I compare it almost like a post-traumatic stress disorder sort of thing. Soldiers are a good example. They get on the battlefield and kill, and they believe that they're doing the right thing. But that doesn't stop the guilt. The actual physical act of killing has an effect on the human psyche, whether you think you're in the right or the wrong. Chase goes through this guilt thing... and that sort of branches into different parts of his life and affects his relationships and his work and all that sort of stuff.

The big stuff hasn't really happened yet. Where the story line is going, the s--t's about to hit the fan. It's the reason that Chase will stay in the hospital and the reason that Cameron will leave. Chase feels he has to stay and face the music — whatever that is. Maybe nothing ever happens, but he feels like he has to stay and play that out in the hospital.

TVGuide.com: What is the final straw for Cameron when Chase wants to stay?

Spencer: With the guilt, Chase is acting so weird. [Cameron] thinks he's having an affair [because] something is obviously wrong. She approaches Foreman, Foreman says to talk to me. Eventually, Chase does end up telling her and she ends up blaming House for the event. [She thinks] Chase has sort of been manipulated by House into doing things that he wouldn't ordinarily do. Chase defends the notion that he made this decision rationally and that it had nothing to do with House. She offers for her and Chase to leave and go somewhere. He accepts it [at first] and then realizes that he really can't go anywhere because it's just going to follow him everywhere he goes. That leads them to go their separate ways.

TVGuide.com: There's been talk that Jennifer Morrison would return to the show in the future. How will that work if Chase and Cameron split?

Spencer: We really don't know. It is open for her to come back at some point ... but we don't know in what fashion that will be. That's what makes it exciting. The story line has been set up and right now it's just brewing there, but I don't know how it's going to end.

TVGuide.com: How does Chase fair with dealing with his guilt once Cameron leaves?

Spencer: It will come out in a couple different ways. Most guys throw themselves into their work, and that's what he's doing right now. Also, there's a lot of pent-up aggression that flies around, particularly toward House because there is some residual blame and resentment in the relationship. Whether or not he really had anything to do with it, House sort of becomes the outlet for some of the blame because he was marginally involved, because Cameron blamed him for the end of the relationship. So there is residual aggression and blame that circulates around and makes for some pretty fun things for House and Chase. But then it sort of settles for awhile, and Chase will attempt to move on and just do his job.

TVGuide.com: Will Chase ever be able to forgive himself or at least move on?

Spencer: It's hard to put closure on that. The full closure of that would be that he's caught, convicted and sent to trial, so I don't know! Maybe that will happen. That's the good thing about the show, everything's not wrapped up nicely with little bows. They really emphasize the shades of gray in life. Not everything is black and white, and there are contrasting opinions. Sometimes both opinions are correct. I don't think any full closure will come around.

TVGuide.com: Will we see Chase's faith come into play again as he tries to come to grips with everything?

Spencer: [It] was brought up in Season 2 that he went to seminary and then sort of had to split from his faith and leave it for medicine ... The contrast between science and faith is quite fascinating. Sometimes they overlap, and sometimes they seem to contrast in opinion. Just like the show in a lot of ways. Spirituality and faith is the opposite of what House is. He's about deduction and logic and [how] everything can be worked out through the scientific process. Chase's faith is quite nice to have as the antithesis to House's belief... It's nice to have a character who can jump between one and the other. He looks for absolution through his faith and through science.

TVGuide.com: How will Cameron's departure affect the team and its dynamics? Will someone come to take her place?

Spencer: I don't think anyone will take Cameron's place. We sort of have a new team again because now basically Chase joins the team. It's a slightly new dynamic with him on the team. He asks to come back on the team because he feels like it's the only way he's going to be able to face his demons and what he's done. He comes back on the team so it will be Chase, Foreman, Thirteen and Taub. I still keep doing the surgeries, which is kind of fun because I like doing that stuff.

JESSE SPENCER INTERVIEW: WHAT LIES AHEAD FOR HOUSE

November 9, 2009
House Blog - House WikiHouse returns tonight! TV Guide interviewed Jesse Spencer on what fans can expect. Here's an excerpt:

TV Guide: What's to come?

Jesse Spencer: The big stuff hasn't really happened yet. Where the story line is going, the s--t's about to hit the fan. It's the reason that Chase will stay in the hospital and the reason that Cameron will leave. Chase feels he has to stay and face the music — whatever that is... he feels like he has to stay and play that out in the hospital.

TV Guide: What leads to the break up?

Jesse Spencer: Chase defends the notion that he made this decision rationally and that it had nothing to do with House. She offers for her and Chase to leave and go somewhere. He accepts it and then realizes that he really can't go anywhere because it's just going to follow him everywhere he goes. That leads them to go their separate ways.

TV Guide: The new team?

Jesse Spencer: We sort of have a new team again because now basically Chase joins [it]. It's a slightly new dynamic with him on the team. He asks to come back on the team because he feels like it's the only way he's going to be able to face his demons and what he's done. He comes back on the team so it will be Chase, Foreman, Thirteen and Taub.

DVRs BOOST HOUSE'S RATINGS

November 6, 2009

Blog Posts - House WikiEveryone in the television business has been afraid of DVRs killing shows. Since one of the perceived benefits of owning a DVR is skipping commercials, it make s sense that advertisers might see a decline in their client's profits, thus effecting ad sales, thus effecting our favorite shows. However, according to daveandthomas.net, DVR ratings have added significantly to live ratings and ad revenue.

It turns out that since we are lazy enough to want to watch TV on our own relaxed schedule, we are lazy enough to sit through the commercials. According to Nielsen, 46 percent of viewers 18 to 49 years old for all four networks taken together are watching the commercials during playback, up slightly from last year.

Take for example, our favorite show. House is the second among all shows in its live program rating (to Grey’s Anatomy on ABC), became the top show in terms of commercials viewed within three days with a 5.68 rating (about 6.53 million), gaining almost 18 percent. NBC’s comedy The Office had one of the single biggest gains — 26 percent from its live program rating — to 3.92 (4.5 million) for its rating including playbacks.

So, in theory, a DVR doesn't change whether you watch commercials or not. It just changes when you watch them.

FOX SCAVENGER HUNT + VOTE FOR HOUSE ON TV GUIDE

November 5, 2009
I have two bits of info for you Housians today. The first is that Fox is holding a scavenger hunt that will take place across all of Fox's network shows. The event will be a celebration of The Simpsons‘ 20th year as a series and will include House.

There will be clues alluding to The Simpsons throughout each of the network shows. In the promo clip, Jesse Spencer deadpans "I bet you're not smart enough to find them." Simpsons writer and producer Al Jean warns that the clues may be subtle, and that you'll have to pay close attention to the details. D'oh!

House Blog - House Wiki

Watch this video clip that tells you what to look for. It features actors from Fox shows including our favorites from House- Hugh Laurie, Jesse Spencer, Omar Epps and Olivia Wilde. The hunt runs November 9-14, and the winner will be chosen randomly. The prize along with how to submit your entry has yet to be announced.

On a completely different topic, TV Guide has requested input about which show is the best of 2009.
We all know that House is the best show on the planet, right? So if you want to vote for our favorite curmudgeon of a doctor, let TV guide know what you think.

CAMERON-GATE UPDATE

OLIVIA WILDE ON JENNIFER MORRISON: "AS FAR AS I KNOW, SHE'S COMING BACK!"

November 4, 2009
Olivia Wilde at Jimmy Choo/H&M launchOlivia Wilde made an appearance at the Jimmy Choo/H&M launch, and spoke to reporters about two very important subjects: Her girl crush, and Jennifer Morrison's future on House.

As far as her girl crush goes, Wilde says she hasn't decided,
according to E! online, (Big let down.)

"There's so many fabulous women!" Wilde said, "I'll get back to you."

But the really interesting spill is about whether Dr. Allison Cameron is coming back to House. Lisa Edelstein alluded to Jennifer coming back to the show earlier this month, and it sounds like Olive Wilde sealed the deal with her comments

"As far as I know she's coming back," Olivia said. "I think now she's not in a few episodes, but she's coming back. None of us really knew what was going on, but at this point, I've heard the same information as you."

Perhaps it was an outcry from fans of House who have been blogging, writing and complaining about Morrison's character disappearing for good. Or perhaps the producers have known all along that she would be back. We blogged on September 29th that executive producer Katie Jacobs said that what happens in the story arch is purely "creative choice."

How does that sit with Wilde?

"We're used to them being unpredictable," Olivia explained. "My character went to Thailand for a little while...you never know! That's what makes the show great and makes us really appreciate the shows we have."

Well, at least Hugh Laurie has job security, or they'd have to change the show's name to "Cuddy," "Foreman," or "Chase."

Oh, and for all you fashionistas, Jimmy Choo's line hits approximately 200 H&M stores on November 14, 2009. Here's a peek at what's to come.

CUDDY'S SERENADE: PLAYED BY DR. HOUSE, WRITTEN BY HUGH LAURIE

November 3, 2009
I really shouldn't be surprised when I find out more about how talented Hugh Laurie really is. I mean, we know he plays piano, guitar, and other instruments, but did you know that the piano piece at the end of the Episode 5.15 Unfaithful was written by Laurie? Here's a fan video with the whole song, titled Cuddy's Serenade:

I did a little more research into Laurie's past as a keyboardist/pianist, and found a few fast facts about him:

- Laurie performed as a keyboardist with the rock band Poor White Trash and the Little Big Horns.

- He currently plays keyboards with Band From TV - a band that features television stars and raises money for various charities.

- Hugh told an interviewer that [music is] the one place where he can really lose himself: "I can sit at my piano for what seems like five minutes, but when I look at the clock it's three in the morning." (Daily Mail, Dec. 7, 1996)

- Laurie plays New Orleans jazz with his kids. One son plays sax, another son plays drums, and his daughter plays clarinet.

- Laurie's favorite musician is Muddy Waters.

- Discs that Hugh Laurie would take on a desert island include: I Want to Be Loved, by Muddy Waters; Bruch's Violin Concerto No.I performed by the Pinchas Zuckerman with the London Philharmonic Orchestra; Tumbling Dice, by the Rolling Stones; (Love Is)The Tender Trap, by Frank Sinatra and Count Basie; Hit Me with your Rhythm Stick, by Ian Dury and the Blockheads; Theme Tune from The Sea Hawk, by Erich Korngold;Me Minus You Equals Loneliness" by Dr. John; Brown Eyed Girl, by Van Morrison

I didn't even dig into his past as a guitar player. I bet there's a treasure trove of information just on Hugh and his guitar. More to come, I'm sure.
