I was diagnosed with PTC 2 months ago, after a 2 year stint of symptoms. My symptoms include, daily migraines, chronic fatigue, increased head pressure (like standing on head upside down), synchronous tinnitus ("Whooshing" noise in ear keeping time with heartbeat), dizzy spells, blurred/double vision, absence seizures, nausea, insomnia, missed periods, swollen lymph nodes (from cerebral spinal fluid running into cervical lymph nodes), inflamed and cramped neck and shoulder muscles (also from cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) leak), constant runny nose (CSF rhinnorrhea). Furthermore I have had some muscle spasms in leg, upper arm and face as well as occasional mild parasthesias in leg. In the two years I suffered with these symptoms, I was seeing a neurologist who ran performed every test minus the lumbar puncture. I was told that I "merely" had migraines. I saw my ENT for the lymph node swelling and "whooshing" ear and was told that "Everything has to start sometime". My PCP thought that I was suffering from anxiety/depression and that my symptoms were most likely psychosomatic. Finally, in March 2009, I went into the hospital with the worst pain of my life. I thought my head was going to explode. A lumbar puncture was done and my opening pressure was a high of 29. Eye exams were completed and papilledema was noted. MRI's and CAT scans were done with no noticeable changes. I was diagnosed with PTC. This is a rare disease and therefore, medical professionals know little about it. The true cause is unknown and the current available cures are weak at best. Medications can make you toxic, and shunt surgeries usually come with complications and aren't always successful. As mentioned PTC has been labeled as a fat persons disease but, there are many who are thin and still suffer. Recent studies out of Sweden show that weight gain is a symptom of PTC not a cause. Please help by having an episode on House.
