Hello everyone!!! this is my first fanfic, so please tell me if I've screwed the way it's setup....This is about an intern at the hospital, that Cuddy happens to give to House to deal with. This is set in no particular time period, but the original doctors are there....
Dr.Lisa Cuddy sat in her office leaning over some paperwork she had on her desk. She began to type something up onto her computer when she heard a knock on her door. "Come in" she said to the figure behind the door. She had called House down but it couldn't be him, because he would have bust into the door with no regard as to what she was doing.
A young woman with her long black hair in a braid, walked onto the room with a smile on her face."I'm assuming your Dr.Cuddy?" she asked. Cuddy stood up and walked over to the woman. "Yes I am. You must be Rose Scarlett." She said holding out her hand to the girl. "That would be me.." Rose said. She looked around the office."Isn't Dr.House supposed to here?". Cuddy sighed. "Yes, but thats House for you. I should probably tell you he doesn't know about you yet....and don't be upset when he throws insults at you, he does that to everybody." Rose laughed a little and said "I think I'll be fine"
Just at that time House bust through the door as Cuddy predicted. Rose jumped at his startiling entry."Make this quick, I've got 2 minutes until my soap comes back on." House said as soon as he was in the office. Cuddy walked up to him. "I guess you'll just have to miss your soap, until we're done here." House rolled his eyes and looked over at Rose. "Who's that?" he said, pointing his cane in her direction. "That's the reason why you're here." Cuddy said. House walked over to Rose."Crap, did the hooker come to my office again!" House looked down at Rose. "I gave you people my address!" Rose opened her mouth to say something, but Cuddy beat her to the point."House!" she scolded." This is Rose Scarlett-" House cut her off. "Rose Scarlett, who named you, a hippie?" He said. Rose finaly got a chance speak up." Lets get something straight, buddy, I will not put up with your crap, like you think I will." Rose's statement took House back. "Congradulations" House said turning to Cuddy." She has succsessfuly captured my attention. Now why is she here?" Cuddy continued the statement she had began earlier. "Dr.Scarlett is here because she is one of the most succsessful interns of her class. Her professors only assumed that there best student should be able to be partnered up with the best doctor here. Of course it's only for two weeks though." Cuddy finished.
"You mean she's going to follow me around for two weeks?" House said in a whiny voice. "I'm right here you know.." Rose stated. House turned and looked at her. "Oh I'm sorry princess, let me do that again." He looked directly at Rose."You mean you're going to be following me around for two weeks?" Rose just about slapped that look off his face."No. I'm going to help you figure out what's wrong with the patients." House gave her a dirty look."Do you think I need any help from you?" Rose gave him the same dirty look. "You need help from somebody." House smirked and said."Follow me, We'll go to my office, but wait outside for a sec." Rose nodded and went out of the room. Cuddy stood there slightly baffled and House was still smirking. "I like this kid" House said before limping out of the room.Cuddy shook her head and sat back down at her desk.....
.........
Rose stood outside Cuddy's office waiting for Dr.House to come out. She had a feeling these were going to be the strangest 2 weeks of her life. Spending 2 weeks with House would unsettle anyone, but she figured it couldn't be that bad. She was a bit cocky herself sometimes anyway. Still there was something about the guy....
House walked out of the office, wiping the smirk of his face. Wilson was on his way over. He tried to pretend he didn't see him."Isn't that Dr.Wilson?" Rose asked."Shut up and walk." House hissed to her. Rose followed House toward the elevator. House leaned down to press the button to go up, but Wilson had him caught. "House!" Wilson trotted toward them. House grimaced and turned around putting on a fake smile. "Wilson..." he mumbled. "Who's your friend, House?" Wilson said pointing at Rose. Rose cut in before he could say a word. "Name's Rose Scarlett. I'm an intern...sort of" Wilson turned toward House and laughed. "So Cuddy finaly decided to give you an intern? What is this a punishment?" House glared at Wilson then at Rose. " No, I'm watching this doggy while her owner is out of town." he said sarcasticlly. "Two weeks in the House Kennel." Rose rolled her eyes."Listen, it was nice meeting you and all, but I'm pretty sure there is something else we can be doing...." Wilson looked at the two akwardly and said 'Ok...um, see you again, I guess." House nodded and turned back toward the elevator."C'mon, we'll go up so you can meet the other puppies...." House said as they stepped into the elevator." I've got a poodle, chihuahua, and a pitbull..." Rose sighed and shook her head. "I can only guess at this point."
...........
House and Rose walked to his office, where the door said "Gregory House, M.D" House opened the door and they walked in, only to walk into a larger room next to it. Sitting at the table in the room were three doctors. One of them stood up. "Hi I'm Dr.Eric Foreman, and you must be the intern Cuddy told us about" House looked at him."Cuddy told you about her, but not me?" questioned House. "It's no surprise" Another of the doctors said."I'm Dr.Chase." Rose shook his hand then Foreman's and the hand of another named Dr.Cameron, this one a girl. Rose turned back toward House."Your co-workers are way friendlier than you." She turned back toward Chase. "Your australian right?" Dr.Chase smiled. "Yes I am, but everyone always assumes I'm from England."
"Ahem" House said. "Are we forgetting to say hello to our boss today and tell him how much we love him?" Dr.Cameron crossed her arms. "Get over yourself, House." House pretended to consider that then shrugged and said. "When your as great as me it's sort of hard too...Just ask Cuddy, I'm sure she'll tell you about how bad she wants me." Rose turned back toward Foreman. "I'm guessing he's like this all the time." Foreman sighed and said "Pretty much."
House looked down at his pager that had just went off."The monster on the first floor says I owe her clinic hours.Gotta go." He said grabbing his cane. Chase stopped him."What do you want us to do, we've got no patient..." House waved a hand dismissing the question as he walked out of the room. "So what do we do now?" Rose asked the others. "Wanna get some coffee?" Cameron asked. The others shrugged. "Sure, why not."
Rose spoke."Wow first day and I get coffee, that'll be something to tell the other interns.." she said sarcasticlly."Don't worry we'll have something by the end of the day.."Chase said.Rose shrugged and followed the others to get some coffee.
............
"So, should I call you Rose or Dr.Scarlett?" Foreman asked. The four had went down to a coffee shop down the road rather than stay at the hospital. " Rose is fine" Rose told him. "Your an intern, so I'm guessing your in some sort of sub-specialty training...." Chase said. Rose sipped some of her coffee and said. "i'm in my third year of training for neurology." Foreman smiled."I'm a neurologist, and excuse me for asking, but how old are you?"
"I'm 26" Rose ansered. Foreman looked sort of confused. " You're 26 and already in your third year, I was just starting mine at that age." Rose smiled. " Jumped a few years in school when I was kid..." Chase nodded. "Now it makes more sense." The four stayed silent until there pagers went off. Cameron looked down at hers then looked back up at Rose and smiled. "Looks like we got that patient you wanted"
............
Rose and the other doctors sat in the room they had been in before. House stood at his board with the marker in his hand. He began listing symptoms on the board." We've got slurred speech, muscle pain, twitching and overactive gag reflex so far.....Go." they were silent for a moment then Cameron spoke. "It could be spinal cord cancer." Chase spoke next."Maybe syringomyelia, fits the symptoms so far." Foreman's turn." Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, if its emerging the other symptoms could come later, how old is the guy?"
"34" House ansered. Rose spoke up." Multiple sclerosis" Foreman objected. " He would be having bowel problems" Rose shook her head " Not yet, but if he has it, it'll come."Rose began. " Or maybe CIS, since he doesn't show all the signs MS, but it could later develop into it....."
House looked around." Chase, get an x-ray of the spine to see if you or Cameron is right. Foreman you go run an MRI to see if you or the kid was right." House looked at Rose and Cameron." Cameron, you go tell our patient the possibilities......Scarlett, go fetch Wilson to see if Cameron can prove her cancer idea.....Just go to the oncology department, you should be able to find his office from there...."
All the doctors went except for Foreman, who stayed. " Do you think Rose is right, House?" House sat down at his desk. "I think the kid is smart.." Foreman shook his head. "But do you think she is right?" House glared at Foreman. "I told you what I think. Now go do your job." Foreman sighed and walked out of House's office. House sat in the silence thinking. What did he think of Rose?
............
Rose wandered through the oncology department until she found the door to the office that said "James Wilson, M.D." She knocked on the door and waited for a response. After a few moments she heard from the inside "Come in" She walked in and saw Dr.Wilson sitting at his desk. He looked up." Hey, Rose, right?" Rose nodded. "Rose right.."she said."And sorry about earlier, House already had me ticked for the moment" Wilson smiled. "No problem. Can I help you with anything?"
"We've got a patient, and Cameron thinks he has spinal cord cancer. I think think he has MS, but the others don't seem to trust my opinion." Wilson sighed."Don't worry to much, House doesn't trust anything but his own opinion." Rose shook her head."House didn't say a word about what I said, just Foreman." Wison mumbled. "That's not like House...." Rose eyed Wilson. "What do you mean?"
Wilson dimissed the questioned. "Just give me a page when you get the results, I'll take a look at them. As for now.." he looked down at his watch. "Wow does time fly, its time for lunch. Wanna go grab a bite with me?" Rose shrugged. "Might as well..."
Wilson smiled and they both headed for the hospital cafeteria.
...........
In the cafeteria that day they were serving meat loaf."Well its not exactly cuisine, but its food...." Wilson said cringing at the sight of it. Rose laughed and said. "It can't be that bad can it?"Grabbing some and putting it on his plate, Wilson said, "Try it yourself, you'll see." Smiling, Rose put some on her plate. They got up to the cash register and Rose pulled her wallet out of her pocket.
"Its ok, I got it." Wilson said pulling out his own and paying. Rose shrugged. "Alright" Rose and Wilson sat down at a table and started eating. Rose took one bite and said "Yuck, you were right.." Wilson laughed quietly.About that time, House limped up to they're table with his plate in one hand. "Oh thank god you found her, Jimmy, she got off her leash." he said looking down at Rose. He sat down in between her and "Jimmy". He glanced over at Rose's plate. "You eating that?" Rose shrugged. "No, guess not..."
"Good" he said taking it off her plate and taking Wilson's directly after."Sure you can have it House." Wilson said in an flat voice. "I know" House said, not bothering to swallow his food before he spoke. Wilson sighed and got up from the table. "I guess I'll leave, Nice talking to you Rose..." Rose nooded and said good-bye as he left. Rose gave House an ennoyed look for running Wilson off. "What? " he said innocently. Rose shook her head and left as well.
............
Rose sat the table they had been at earlier in House's office tossing this ball she found on his desk up and down. She looked at the board of symptoms and thought about what else it could be if their theories were wrong. After a while of sitting alone in the office, House walked in and caught the ball in mid-air. "This is mine." he said. "Okay...." she mumbled. House stood in front of the board examining the words. "What do you think it is, House?" House turned around and looked at her, silent for a moment. "I think that Foreman is right..." he said, turning back toward the board. "I think your wrong." Rose said. House glanced back at her. "Willing to put money on it?" he said. Rose smirked. " Sure, how much?" He turned completely around, smirking too. " One-hundred dollars." Rose lifted her eyebrows. "Pretty confident aren't you?"
"You seem like you are too....You gonna make a bet?" he said. Rose smiled broadly. "You bet I am." They shook hands and waited for the results. After a short while, all the rest of the doctors walked in. Foreman spoke first. "I've got the results of the MRI." Rose jumped up from her seat, eager to prove House wrong."Let me see it." Foreman handed Rose the results."Okay, okay, calm down..." Rose sat down down and took a look, after a moment smiling broadly. She got up, bringing the results to House."What do you see House?" he looked at the scan. "Lesions..." he said unwillingly."And what does that mean, House?" she said still smiling. "It means he has multiple scelerosis....."
"Hand over the money." Rose said holding out her hand. House glared at her while pulling $100 out of his wallet. He yanked it out and handed it to her. He then turned around to Foreman. "I was betting you were right." Foreman shrugged "I thought I was right too...but we weren't."
"Start him on mitoxantrone first, then give him methylprednisolone to control the attacks." Nobody moved. "Well, what are you waiting for? Move!" he barked at the doctors. Everyone scurried out of the room, except for Rose who stayed to gloat until House kicked her out.
............
Rose walked out of House's office and headed toward Cuddy's office. She should have felt bad for rubbing it in House's face like that and taking his money, but she didn't. She had a feeling he maybe deserved to wrong for once.
Cuddy had told Rose to come to her office at the end of the first day, so she was. Once she made it to Cuddy's office she knocked on the door and walked in, not waiting for her to say she could come in. Cuddy looked up and had a confused look on her face."It's only 3:45, what are you doing here so early?" she asked. "We already know what he has, multiple sclerosis.." Cuddy still looked confused."That didn't excactly fit his symptoms, but House does think out of the box....."
"It was my idea, House thought he had Lou Gerhig's disease." Rose said."You just made a lucky guess" Cuddy and Rose turned toward the voice, which was House standing at the door way.Rose smiled."You're just mad you lost the bet." Cuddy looked at House."How much did you bet?" she asked."$100" House mumbled. Cuddy shook her head. "Will you ever learn House?"
"Well, usually I win the bet....." House stated, glaring at Rose. He turned away from them. "I'm leaving." he said as he began to walk out the door."No you don't!" Cuddy barked. "Now you can make up some of those clinic hours you owe me." House groaned and pointed his cane at Rose. "You go do it." he said."I am your boss for the next two weeks after all." Cuddy looked angrily at House."Go." she said pointing at the door."Yes, mommy." House said as he walked out the door.
Cuddy sighed and looked back up at Rose. "You know, I think he hates me, Cuddy..." Rose said." He doesn't hate you he respects you.." Rose rolled her eyes."Some show of respect" she mumbled."He has to respect you, you proved him wrong. He thinks your smart..."
Rose opened the door to leave the room."I'll believe that when you can prove it...." With that she walked out of the room.
End of Day 1
............
Rose walked in the front door of the hospital the next day. Yesterday had been boring enough, she hoped they got a harder case today. It was a little early, so House probably wasn't here yet. Might as well see what Cuddy had for them today. She walked to the office and walked in." Hey" she said to Cuddy."You're here early." Rose stuck her hands in the pockets of her cargo shorts."Yeah....So, got anything new for us?"
Cuddy picked up a file."Actually, I do. This should keep you guys busy for while." Rose took the file and smiled."I like it, but will it intrest House?" Cuddy sighed "I hope so." They were quiet for a minute. "I thought about what you said Cuddy, about House respecting me...." Rose said."And?" Cuddy asked. "And nothing, I just thought about it." Cuddy rolled her eyes."You're as bad as House..." she said teasingly.
"Not yet.." Rose replied seriously."But his attitude might be infectious....." she smiled."Well I'll take this and leave...."Rose said as she walked out of the room.
............
Rose walked into the office and sat down at the table. She glanced down at her watch. The others should be here soon. Rose opened up the file and looked inside. This case seemed interesting enough, should entertian House.
Interrupting her thoughts, Foreman walked through the door."Hey, good to see House didn't scare you off on the first day." Rose smiled."Yeah....Shouldn't House be here before the rest of us?" Foreman sighed and shook his head."He should, but...." Rose stopped him by holding up a hand."I got it." Not to long after the other two doctors had walked into the room and they were all waiting for House. Chase looked down at his watch "A few more minutes and he'll be considered late." Rose nodded.
"He does this all the time." Cameron said. Rose smiled."I believe it....."
...........
House limped into the hospital right on time. He heard Cuddy's voice from behind him."You're late." He turned around and found she was right behind him."I'm on time..." Cuddy glared at him."You're supposed to be here before time, so you're late." House rolled his eyes."Enough of your annoying logic, just give me a case and I'll be on my way." he said. "Rose already came and got one." Cuddy said."She was here early."
"What are you trying to do, make me jealous?" House said, turning around."Where do you think you're going?" Cuddy said "I'm not done here." House turned his head back at Cuddy while he was getting in the elevator."I'm going to go pop my new puppy on the nose and tell her how to properly obey her master." As House was finishing, the elevator door closed.
"I can't believe him." Cuddy said, to no one in particular."Can't believe who?" Cuddy turned around and saw Wilson."House..." Wilson raised his eyebrows. "The usual culprit. What is it this time?"
"The usual culprit, House treating another person like crap." Cuddy said. Wilson nodded, not even having to ask who it was. Not even bothering to end the conversation, the two walked there seperate ways.
..........
Limping out of the elevator, House headed toward his office. When he walked in, he saw Rose about to open a file and tell the others about the patient. He limped up to her and snatched the file from her hands."Hey!" she said. House waved the folder in front of her face."Bad girl." he said."This is my job." Rose frowned."Whatever." she mumbled.
"Since when are you worried about doing your job anyway, House?" Foreman said. House turned toward him."I'm not worried about me doing my job, I'm worried about her doing my job." House said."She's just trying to suck up to Cuddy anyway."
"I am not!" Rose said."Are too." House countered."You sound like a little kid." Rose snarled. House reached out and flicked her on the nose. Rose flinched."What was that all about?!" House pointed his cane at a chair."Bad dog. Sit." Rose stayed where she was."Don't make me get the spray bottle." House said. Rose rolled her eyes and sat down, unwilling to continue this ridiculous scuffle."Good girl." House said, then patted her on the head. Rose sat there silent with her arms crossed while House looked at the file and began listing symptoms on the board.
..........
The patients symptoms had ranged all over the board, literally, but her main concern was her liver failure. House had sent Foreman and Rose to do the regular tests, and a tox screen for drugs, because of a few other symptoms that fit drugs. They had gotten the tox screen back and it was clean so here they all were back in front of the board. "What have we got people?" House said to them all. "Maybe it's fatty liver disease, it would explain her abdominal pain and why she's always so tired." Rose said. House considered and said " Chase, go get a biopsy of the liver."
"It was my idea." Rose said."So?" House said, still looking at the board. Rose was silent for a moment then said."Her skin was a little discolored, she may have Primary sclerosing cholangitis...." Cameron disagrees." Wouldn't she show signs of inflammatory bowel disease?" Rose almost said something but House did first."Not in all cases....We do usaully get the rare ones."
After a series of things like that House had sent them all of to run there tests for there diagnosis. House sat bored in his office before he decided to go give visit to Wilson.
...........
Wilson sat at his desk just waiting for House to come in. He payed him a visit everyday and it was around time for him to come. Not to long after he glanced at his watch House walked in."Hey House." He said dryly."You sound so glad to see me....." House said."Aren't I always?" Wilson said in a lighter tone of voice. House stood there tapping his cane on the floor. He reached in his pocket and pulled out his bottle of vicodin. Wilson watched him swallow the pills."Is there anything specific you want House?" he said." Unlike you, I have work to do." House ignored the question and sat down, propping his feet up on Wilson's desk."What do you think of Rose?" Wilson asked House. House eyed Wilson."What do you mean?" Wilson shrugged."Cuddy said you were treating her like crap, so your either hitting on her or you really hate her."
"What makes you think I would be hitting on her?'' House asked innocently. Wilson just looked up."Don't answer that question...." House said. Wilson ignored him anyway so House got up and began to leave."I'm not the one buying her lunch....." he said before he walked out. Wilson sighed and went back to his work.
...........
Rose caught House as he was walking out of the oncology department."House." she called. He stopped as Rose trotted toward him."Hey, me and Wilson were just talking about you." House said."Oh yeah..." Rose said not taking any intrest. House stared at Rose for a while. She moved feet around nervously. "Akward....."she said. House faked snapping back into reality."Oh, I'm sorry. Couldn't stop thinking about what Wilson said about you. Naughty boy....He should really get some help for those fantasies he's been having." Rose rolled her eyes." Very funny, House." House and Rose walked up to the elevator."I crack you up don't I ?" House said as they both stepped into the elevator.
"Yes House you are humor perfection." Rose said, not looking up at him."You forgot to mention I'm good-looking too." Rose glanced up at him."Guess it slipped my mind...." she said."It's your personality that sticks with someone though." House raised his eyebrows."So you think I'm funny, good-looking, and have a good personality." he said as they stepped out of the elevator."No, you think your good-looking, funny, and have a great personality." Rose corrected. "I'm simply saying your thoughts for you..." House said. They walked into the office where the other doctors were waiting. House turned back toward Rose with everyone watching."We'll talk about this later..." He said winking, trying to get on her last nerve. The other doctors, lost out of the conversation, looked at two with confused faces. Rose ignored them and sat down in front of House's desk and waited for the others to say they're results.
............
"I did a endoscopy on her pancreas and bile duct." Rose said to the others. "Look's fine, so it's not Primary sclerosing cholangitis....." House nodded and looked over at Chase."The biopsy was clean, no fatty liver disease." Foreman broke in."It could be hep c." Rose shook her head."It's not hep. C." she said."How do you know?" Cameron asked." I tested her for it, that's not it." House looked over at Rose."No one told you to test her....." She shrugged."Well, I tested her anyway. I thought it should be done." House leaned over his desk, his nose inches from her face."You do what I say. Not what you think you should do." Rose stayed where she was, not intimidated."Since when are you a stickler for the rules, House?" They stayed where they were, glaring at each other. After a while, House gave up and leaned back in his chair. He took out his vicodin and swallowed a few."You eat those like there candy..." House swallowed a few more."Annoying females cause me to take more." They continued there staring contest.
"Are you two done?" Chase said. The two snapped back into attention."Go get a scan of the liver, we might be able to find a tumor...." House said. Rose got up to go. "You stay here." House said to Rose."Foreman, Chase, Cameron, you go." The others got up to leave. Rose watched the others leave. House leaned on his desk with his elbows."Let's talk." Rose smiled. "This should be fun....."
............
Cuddy was flared. House, after two weeks, still owed her 20 clinic hours. She stormed out of the elevator, on her way to his office. She figured he wasn't busy, he never was. Checking up on Rose might be a good idea too....
Cuddy walked into House's office to see him leaning over his desk in Rose's face. He looked like he was trying to scare her, but from the expression on her face, it wasn't working. House snapped his head up when Cuddy walked in."Glad you could join the party, but I have to warn you here and now, there is a achohol limit..." he said, getting up and standing in front of Cuddy."This is a hospital after all." Cuddy frowned."House, I don't have time for your crap today. But you look like you have plenty of time for the clinic." House snapped his fingers."Ohh, you know.Can't. Busy house-training my new dog." he said glancing back at Rose, who was watching with enjoyment. Cuddy walked over by Rose."He hasn't been giving you too much trouble, has he?" House cut in first."She is one tough kitty..."
"Wait...Kitty? I thought I was a dog." Rose said. House shrugged. "I lied..." Cuddy spoke again."Rose, can you excuse Dr.House and I for a moment?" Rose, who was having fun watching they're arguement, sighed and left the room.
...........
"House, I need you to do these clinic hours....." Cuddy said to House, who was playing with his yo-yo. He didn't answer, just looked down at the toy. Cuddy lashed out and caught it on the way up."Give me that." she said harshly. House stuck his lip out."Mom, you're going to make me cry." he said in a whiny-kid voice. Cuddy huffed and said "I'm giving you until Rose leaves to get those clinic hours done, or else."
"Or else what, you going to take my yo-yo away?" House asked. "Or else-" Cuddy began, but couldn't think of any thing that would threaten him." I don't know, but or else something." House smirked, thinking he was winning this fight."I'll just make Kitty do it...." he said."You don't have the authority to make her do that." House frowned."Say's who?" he pouted."Says me." Cuddy countered. House was silent for moment."What if I don't make her, what if I ask her?" he said after while.
"What do you mean?" Cuddy said. "I mean ask her nicely....." Cuddy laughed."Please, you would have to do a lot of softening up, which I know you can't do....." House grabbbed his yo-yo back from Cuddy."Wanna bet?" he said as he limped out the room with a smirk on his face."This should be good." Cuddy mumbled, walking out herself.
............
Later that day......
Rose got out her car and walked to the front door of her house. They still couldn't figure out what exactly was wrong with the patient, so they would continue it tomorrow. House seemed to be in a hurry to get Rose out of the office, but that was probably normal. Well, as normal as House could get anyway....
Rose unlocked the door and walked in, to be greeted by her husky, Delta."Hey buddy." she said to the dog, who was jumping up and down with excitement. She walked into the living room and sat down on the couch. Delta jumped up and sat right beside her, wanting to get in her lap."Alright you big baby, c'mere." she said as the large dog tried to fit in her lap.
Rose had just turned the T.V on when her phone rang. Delta looked up at her."You're going to have to get up you know." she said to the dog. He backed up out of her lap and let her stand up. "Hello." Rose said, answering the phone."Hey Rose..." said a familiar voice."What's up Dennis?" she said to her college friend. "Not a whole lot here, what about you?"
"I've been being harrased by an arrogant doctor." she said, smiling to herself."Oh, you mean your doing that two-week program with Dr.House?" Dennis asked."That's the one." she replied."No, Susan!" she heard him shout over the phone."Um, who's Susan?" Rose asked, slightly confused."I'm watching my cousin's kid for the week, she's on her honeymoon, you know, she got married again."
"Right, the wedding was this last weekend." Rose said."You were invited, but you didn't show up....." Dennis said."I told you, I hate weddings."Rose said."You still could have came as a nice gesture..." he said back. It was quiet for a moment, then Rose heard something crash in the background."I gotta go, Rose, Susan just got into the china cabinet.." he said, then Rose heard a click. She laughed to herself then sat down and changed the channel.
End of Day 2
............
Cuddy managed to catch Wilson as he was walking into the hospital the next morning. If House was up to something, he would know about it. "Wilson!" she called to him. Wilson turned around."What's up?" he said."House is up to something, and he probably told you what it is." Cuddy said. Wilson was quiet and then said, "He never told me about anything yesterday....." Cuddy glared at him."Are you lying?" Wilson held his hands up."I'm not lying."
"Well, if he hasn't told you yet, I'm sure he will. Whatever his plan is, I'm sure he can't pull it off without Mr.Nice Guy." Cuddy stated. Wilson pointed to himself."I'm assuming that I'm Mr.Nice guy?" Before Cuddy got another word in, Rose walked up."Hey guys." she said in a cheerful tone of voice."Hello, Rose." replied both of them. Rose turned to Wilson."Our patient has a tumor just big enough for us to see, so we're handing her over to you." Wilson was confused."House told me yesterday there was no tumor..." Rose shrugged."Well, he just didn't see it."
"Wow, House was wrong twice in a row, I don't believe it." Cuddy said. Rose looked down at her pager."I have to go guys, apparently there is some sort of emergency." she paused."Considering we have no patient, I'm not sure how....But, bye." she said, then trotted of toward the elevator. Wilson watched her leave and said "Look's like House has met his match...." Cuddy nodded, and they both walked away.
.............
Rose walked into House's office to see him sitting at his desk."So whats the emergency?" Rose said, trying to avoid sounding serious. House held up his red coffee mug."Make me some more coffee." he stated plainly. Rose rolled her eyes and walked up to get the cup from him. But when she tried to get it from his hands, he wouldn't let her."Why didn't you object? Have you given up already?" House asked. Rose yanked the cup from his hands."So, you ask me to do something, I go to do it, and you stop me?" Rose said. She looked down at him with cold blue eyes."I don't know what your playing at, House, but your not winning the game....."
"Who says your winning?" House countered. "Whatever gave you the idea I was winning?" Rose said back. This guy liked mind games, so he was going to get one. House was silent glaring at her for what seemed like forever. He pointed his cane to the other room."I want my coffee black....."
Rose walked out of the door, smiling all the way. When she walked in Foreman was standing there."What are you smiling about?" he asked, as the other two walked up beside him. "I'm winning...." Rose replied. Foreman looked over at House in the other room, who was watching every move Rose made."Why is he looking at you like that?" Cameron asked, noticing too. Rose smiled again. "He knows I'm winning...." The other doctors exchanged confused glances as Rose poured the coffee in the mug.
She got the mug and took it back to House. She went to hand it to him, but he just looked at it."What, are you going to not except it, too?" she snarled. He stared at it, then glanced back up at her. House took it from her hands, then got up, limping out of the office.
.............
Wilson walked into his office to see House sitting in front of his desk, sipping on a coffee mug. "What are you doing here already, House?"House took out his bottle of vicodin out and popped a few in his mouth."I need your help." he said, swallowing the pills. Wilson sat down at his desk."Okay, with what?"
"Your going to invite Rose to dinner tonight, but you going to tell her it was my idea, I was just to busy in the clinic to ask." Wilson stared at House."Sounds more like a command than a question....." he said. House shrugged."Command, question, whatever.." he mumbled. "Do I even want to know why you want me to do this?" Wilson asked. "Cuddy said I can't make her do my clinic hours, so I have to indirectly flatter her through you..."
"Wait, House, you're doing this to avoid clinic.....You've sunk to a new low." Wilson said. "But are you going to help me?" House said, ignoring Wilson's bickering. Wilson shook his head. "No way. I don't want to watch you munipulate an innocent girl into doing your job." he said angrily. House stood up and opened Wilson's door. "Fine, I just thought this would be a good opportunity to get a date with that crush of yours..."
...........
After House had left the room, Rose went back to the others. "Where did he go?" Chase asked when she walked in. Rose shrugged. "No, idea. But I do have a feeling he's up to something...." Cameron stood in the corner of the room, making coffee. "Want some?" she asked, holding a mug out to Rose. "Sure, why not." she replied, taking the mug."So, no new patient?" Foreman said.
Rose shook her head."Nope, none that House has mentioned." she paused. "Aren't cases usually more interesing in this department?" Cameron sat down next to her."Most of the time, yes. I'm sure we'll get something more complicated soon though." Rose took a sip of her coffee."I sure hope so."
.........
Wilson was on his way to Cuddy's office, intent on telling her House's plan. He had gone too far this time. Well, maybe he had...Wilson thought so. Cuddy would think so too. House had tried alot of things to get out of clinic duty, but never used being nice as one of his schemes. But maybe, Wilson thought, Maybe this will be good for House. Maybe this isn't just about clinic duty..... Wilson shook his head. What were the chances of that? Very little. Anyway, why would a girl like Rose be interested in a guy like House? he thought.
By this time Wilson had reached Cuddy's office. He walked in and began talking."House does a have some sort of plan...." Cuddy looked up from her work. "I knew it. What is it this time?" Wilson shook his head. "Another scheme to get out of clinic duty." Cuddy shrugged."Should be easy enough to stop him, he has to listen to me, I'm his boss." she said.
"It has nothing to do with what he does here, so you can't really stop him...." Wilson said. Cuddy looked up, confused."What do you mean?" Wilson sighed and told her the whole story. When he was finished, she said."Well, I can't stop him, but I can warn her." She said as she got up and left her office. Wilson followed toward he elevator."Here we go...."
.......
"Damn." House muttered to himself, as he watched Cuddy and Wilson. He told Cuddy! Oh well, he would get his revenge later. For now, he would have to take action himself. He took his cellphone out of his pocket and dialed Rose's number. "What?" Was how he was greeted. "Rose, come down to the main lobby." he commanded. "Why?" she asked. "Just do it!" House fussed. "Ok, ok." Rose muttered. House hung up his phone and waited.
.........
"Where is she?" Cuddy said to Wilson and an empty office. Wilson shrugged. "Probably with the patient or something." He said. "listen, I'll just find Rose later ok? Its not that big of a deal." Cuddy sighed. "Alright. But make sure she finds out." Wilson nodded as she left. He wouldn't say a word to Rose. He had made up his mind. House needed this. He needed her.
.........
With her way to confident strut, house watched Rose walk up to him. She stopped in an sassy, almost sexy, pose, with her hand on her hip. "What is it, House?" she asked calmly. House had to think for a moment. Whoa. He thought she was sexy. Thats new. He swallowed. "Do you want to get dinner, with me, tonight?" he finally managed to spit out. Damn, he felt like a nervous school boy. Rose raised her eyebrows. "Uh..sure." she agreed. House couldn't help but smirk. "Where do you want to go?" he asked. Rose shrugged. "Doesn't matter. I guess." she said. "Good." House said bluntly. "My place then. Like chinese food?" Rose raised an eyebrow. "um, sure. But i don't know where you live." House shrugged. "Then follow me home." House had an answer for anything it seemed. Rose smiled. "you got it all figured out." she said with slight chuckle. House twirled his cane. "Well, I have to go for now, house. Foreman is waiting for me. He's doing a small class for interns." House nodded as she walked off. He couldn't help but notice the swing of her hips. It wasn't like Cuddy's, though. It wasn't like Cameron's either. It was like they were saying, "I know you want me, but you can't have me." House begged to differ.
Wait a second, had he forgotten his purpose? No clinic. Or was it anymore? House was sort of happy that it wasn't.
.........
Rose tried to listen as Foreman gave the class on Behavioral neurology, but her thoughts kept wandering back to House. He has asked her out. But why? From what she could gather he wasn't known for that sort of thing. But she couldn't help but to be happy. Lets face it, she liked him. Just something about him. Maybe his eyes. Well, she didn't know that. But what she did know was, tonight was going to be interesting.
........
That night...
"Welcome to my humble abode." House said, as he and Rose walked in to his place. He took off his jacket and tossed it to the side. They walked over and sat on the couch. House picked up his phone and ordered the food. When he was done, Rose asked "Whats the point, house?" He raised an eyebrow. 'huh?" he asked innocently. "this. You've got to be up to something." Rose said. leaning foward. " You think, maybe i just wanted to ask you out?" house defended. Rose shrugged. "Did you?" she asked, looking directly at him. House nodded. "Yeah. Pretty much." He leaned foward, and their faces were nearly touching. Rose shuffled under his gaze, that said something words couldn't. House's odd feelings for this girl overpowered him. He leaned foward and pressed his lips gently to hers, wrapping his arms around her tiny waist. Rose really didn't know how to react, and her hands ended up on House's chest as he deepened the kiss. His hand went up and tangled in her hair. House pulled her closer to him, so that they were pressed against each other. Rose wrapped her arms around his neck.
House's finger had began to trace her spine, when he felt his phone buzz in his pocket. He grunted and Rose chuckled. "You should get that." she mumbled against lips. House sighed and did so, but kept Rose pressed close to him. "What?" he spat irratatedly. "Hey House." Greeted a casual sounding Wilson. "If you don't mind, I'm sort of busy." House fussed. Rose gigglied and slipped out of his arms to answer the door, that had just been knocked on. As Rose turned back into the house with chinese food in hand, House hung up the phone. She sat back down on the couch. "What did Wilson want?" she asked with a crooked grin, that made house somewhat nervous and turned on at the same time. "Absolutly nothing." house fussed. "Could he have picked a worse time to call?" he said, frowning. Julie took their food out of the bag. "Don't be a baby House. There are worse times for people to call." she said with a wink. House grinned and took his food out of her hand.
.........
"You play the paino?" Rose asked, just now noticing the piano in the corner. House nodded and set his food down. He stood up and held a hand out to Rose. "C'mon." he said. Rose took his hand and he led her over to the piano. They sat down and house wrapped his arm around her waist in a act of sentimentallity that she didn't know House was capable of. "Like anything particular?" he asked. Rose shrugged. "Not really. Play something you like." House nodded and began to play a slow, but catchy tune, Rose had never heard before. She listened further but still couldn't recognize it. "What is this?" she finally asked. House shrugged. "I wrote it." Rose nodded slowly, enjoying the calming music. "What do you call it?" she asked. House tilted his head. "Haven't thought about it yet." he admitted. "How about..." he paused. He was about to sound unlike himself. "Scarlett's lullaby?" Rose rolled her eyes, but couldn't help but blush. "Oh c'mon. This isn't Twlight." house shrugged. "Oh well. Thats its name." he said stubbornly. "You really have a problem having your own lullaby?" he asked seriously. Rose shrugged casually. "Just weird. Coming from you, anyway." House rolled his eyes. "Oh c'mon, I have an sentimental ability." Rose chuckled and shook her head.
"Can you play anything?" House asked. "I'm a beginner with the piano, to be honest. Unless you want to hear Twinkle Twinkle little star, I don't think I should play." Rose admitted. House raised his eyebrows. "Well, I'll tell you what. Maybe an old dog can't learn new tricks, but they can sure as hell teach them to the little puppies who can only play twinkle twinkle little star." Rose laughed. "Sounds good. But let get this straight. first I was a puppy. Then I was a kitty. Now i'm a puppy again?" She said with that crooked smile. "Yup. Who knows, maybe tomorrow you'll be a parakeet." House said. "Ok, well the parakeet was only slightly random...." Rose muttered.
House laughed. He didn't think he had smiled and laughed this much in forever. "Well, anyway, what do you say you learn your own lullaby?"
..........
They had switched to guitar. This one, Rose knew how to play. She beagn to play "Wash Away." By Joe Purdy. It was House's turn to listen. He admit, she was pretty good. "Genius doctor, sexy, young, and can play the guitar. Yup. You're a keeper." he said, with a glint in his eye. Rose just laughed and kept playing. But she stopped and set the guitar down. She was silent for a moment and House raised his eyebrows.
