House IS Miserable
Aug 23 2008, 10:01 PM EDT
I was feeling utterly miserable today and I was thinking "hey, this is what House must feel like all the time..." If i felt miserable all the time like we think House does I would seriously die. I kinda want House to be happy but without his miserableness what is he? Nothing... So whats it going to be? Would we like House happy or miserable? 1  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

i think that house is not as miserable as all the charecters think he is.it's true that he has no personal life, and this is a reason for unhappiness for most of the people, but he finds real pleasure and excitement in his work.a trully unhappy person is ,in my opinion ,someone who has nothing,no loved one,no friends,no work and who finds life just to hard .house is the kind of person who chooses work over familly so he can't be that miserable since he still has his work. You confuse his love of solving puzzles, which brings him temporary euphoria, with the rest of his work and his life in my opinion. And he does take pleasure in some things outside work. I would choose not happy instead of miserable to describe him best. He probably has more days when he feels truly miserable than days when he merely feels ok. Other than that, it gets too complicated for poor little ol' me to analyze. =O Do you find this valuable?

I agree with justjosie and DocteurHouse that House isn't miserable in every moment of his life. He just thinks that his misery makes him special and don't want to show the others his "happy face". His is afraid of being happy. But he enjoys his life (of course not in a traditional way). 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

This is an interesting point to make before the new Season comes out!
i.e. House having to slove this problems with Wilson, i think would make him turely miserable, considering Wilson, the man, is his only friend. Deep down i don't think House would consider himself miserable, at least he never said he was. I think the more idealistic life of the other characters undercut House, which lead us to think he is miserable!

Interesting point. We may think of House as miserable because his lifestyle doesn't match that of the other characters and probably not our own. That doesn't mean it doesn't suit him. He certainly has many personal and professional interests, several of which do not require the presence of another to enjoy or do (music, reading medical journals, downloading porn comes to mind and we've also seen him watch soaps, go to monster truck rallies and bet on the ponies). That said, we can't really call him anti-social either. Every once in a while, he goes out and does something to prove he needs people just like the rest of us. He does rely heavily on Wilson as his connection to the rest of the society so he knows he can't afford for the rift between him and Wilson to endure and that, in the end, will make him find a way to square things with Wilson. He may not consider himself miserable, as shibbylord said, though I believe he knows he needs Wilson to avoid getting there. Do you find this valuable?
