Whom do you prefer: new House or old House?
Nov 6 2009, 7:30 PM EST
Just saw a few random comments here and there and thought it would be a great discussion! Which "House" do you prefer? The House of season 1-5, cranky miserable, popping vicodin left and right. Or the newly improved, almost honest House off of Vicodin who is still witty, likes to cook and rooms with Wilson??

I'm so glad you started this thread! I totally prefer the new House to the old one. The best asset of his personality is that he's realizing that not only can he be a kinder person, but also still be the good diagnostics specialist he is. I remember that in previous seasons the character wondered on a dramatic dilemma, because he thought that staying off Vicodin and establishing contact with his patients or showing his sensitive side would mean stop rationalizing incredible last-minute solutions for each disease's puzzle. But now, that he has actually taken the chance for a change, he's being retributed with really nice things. I enjoy seeing him improve in some deep troubles he had. In addition, I do not think that everything that has a nice ending means it's part of a fairytale. Why can't he try to be less miserable (and happy "as an excellent goal", like Dr Nolan would say) without anyone poking his nose into House's business? Of course, he shouldn't lie to himself about it. The reality is that life has good days (few ones), bad days (not more than the good ones) and a vast quantity of normal days. The problem is when you interpret a normal day's boredom is due to your own depression, and I think that's what House needs to review about his personality or way of thinking. I think I prefer the old House. Yes he was caustic but he knew what he doing and who he was. The new House seems to be searching for a purpose and an identity like a newly lost puppy who hopes people will like him better than before.

I like the rooming with Wilson of the new House but prefer the attitude more of the old House, if that makes any sense.

I think i like the old House better. He was the main reason i enjoyed watching the show all this time. However, the new House is starting to grow on me, him rooming with Wilson and him not taking Vicodin.

The New House all the way! :DHe realised that he can be an amazing doctor, without being an ass... That doesn't mean that he lost his wit or his sense of humor,it just means that he is starting to discover his love for Cuddy, and the things that really matter in life. Do you find this valuable? |

Being a "former" Opiate Addict. There is nothing different with house. Like when Stacey in season 1 was asked by Cameron"What was he like before the accident" she reply 's "Pretty much the same". So I think the writers have done a more then sufficient job of showing the audience that hes always been a bit of prick, bad boy etc. Its got nothing to do with drugs.

I don' agree when people say he's a jerk or a prick or an "ashole". I think he's transparent, he shows everybody how he is without being hypocritical. I don't think he has an evil side, he's not mean and he wouldn't take advantage of anybody to his own sake, or to pursue a selfish or arrogant desire. I think he's a man that always takes the right decisions, even though when the practical solution goes the opposite way the law does (and I'm not saying that "the end justifies the means", I'm just saying he seeks the truth unconditionally). What I like about the new House is that he's not a drug-addict anymore, because in order to make the right decisions you don't have to be necessarily stunned by drugs. I think that people reject him now because they can't stand to see that he's always been a good person, because people are used to seeing a popping-pills man and this is not precisely the image of what a good man is. Although I said I prefer the old House (which I still do), I wouldn't mind to have the old House back again... Specially if that means having the old team back again... Specially if that means not getting rid of Cameron! Haha, I know Tony would definitely agree with me... Do you find this valuable? |

I prefer the old House, I miss his witty, almost always inappropriate remarks! He's too nice, it's a bit weird...

I said I prefer the old House many times already, but I'm thoroughly disappointed for what he's done last episode. He intentionally and literally breaks up Cameron and Chase's marriage. It is high time he considered to take an other session with Dr Nolan, because what he did was undeniably unjustifiable... Do you find this valuable? |

"Of all of these posts, I agree totally with this one! Throughout all of his prior seasons ,House has always been abrasive, and cynical, BUT stops and considers what the others have said, and later sort of self evaluates. It shows him time and time again going way out of his way to do little things to save their necks, or just to give his attention to their needs. Example: The restroom scene when he sat in the stall next to 13 and slid his foot over to initiate a caring conversation! House is, and always has been the protagonist, the "hero". So glad the active vicodin addiction is gone though, yet the cynical sarcasm remains.....It must be very frustrating to be so brilliant and have to s-l-o-w down to wait for everyone else to catch up with you!! Sarcasm is sure an entertaining way for him to occupy himself as he waits ; ) I agree that the benevolent part of the character has always been there, it is just unveiled now.. Welcome to the club! Now we're two people who actually prefer the new House. I hope he can help Wilson out, he is absolutely depressed and needs a caring friend around him. Wilson needs another Wilson, but a one who is still functioning, a happy Wilson. Can House impersonate him in order to save him? Do you find this valuable? |
